Why You Should Always Use Timers for Studying
The myth of locking yourself in the library for 8 hours straight is inefficient. Human cognitive retention requires structure and calculated pauses.

The Primacy and Recency Effect
Psychologically, we better remember what happens at the beginning of a study session (primacy) and at the end (recency). If you study for 3 continuous hours, the blurry, low-retention "middle" lasts over 2 hours. If you break that block into several 45-minute segments using a Countdown Timer, you will multiply the number of "beginnings" and "endings," drastically increasing what you memorize.
Common Techniques
- 50/10 Method: 50 minutes of intense study, followed by 10 minutes of rest away from screens.
- The Pomodoro Technique: 25 minutes of study and 5 of rest. Ideal for tedious subjects where initial resistance is high. (Read our guide on the Pomodoro Technique).
